Ron Moody's career spanned sixty years, but he will always be most closely associated with one role: Fagin in Lionel Bart's musical Oliver!, which he originated in the 1960 West End production and reprised for the 1968 film adaptation, earning a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination for his performance. He returned to the role again in stage revivals through the 1980s and beyond. Beyond Oliver!, he appeared in comedies including The Mouse on the Moon (1963) and Mel Brooks's The Twelve Chairs (1970), and worked in children's television as both actor and voice artist.
