Known for: The Goon Show; Mr Bumble in Oliver! (1968)
Born 8 September 1921, St Thomas, Swansea, Wales

Sir Harry Secombe was a Welsh entertainer best known as a founding member of the groundbreaking BBC radio comedy The Goon Show, in which he played the accident-prone Neddie Seagoon at the centre of the show's absurd plots. Alongside his comedy work he was a genuinely accomplished tenor, a talent he put to use across numerous musicals and films, including a memorable turn as the pompous Mr Bumble in the 1968 film of Oliver!. Later in his career he became a familiar face presenting religious television programmes, combining his singing voice with a warm, sincere screen presence.
